Mary E. Miller, 82, of Loretto, passed away Wednesday. She was born in Hastings, daughter of the late Maurice and Elizabeth Burkey. She was preceded in death by her husband, James; and siblings: Leo Burkey, Elverta Burkey and Cecilia Botti. Surviving are children: Denise Stewart, Michele Skjefte and Jason Miller; grandchildren: Joshua, Walker, Dakotah, Malia and Blake; two great-grandchildren; and siblings, Pat Burkey and Tina McQuillen. Friends will be received from 4 until the 6 p.m. memorial service Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2025, at Gibbons-Houser Funeral Home Inc., 301 Church St., Gallitzin.

The Rev. Jay A. Saxe, 90, of Port Matilda, formerly of Everett, passed away Monday at Wynwood House, State College. He was born in Sweet Valley, Pa., son of the late Rev. Oscar Saxe and Jessie (Harvey) Saxe. His wife, Nancy, preceded him in death. He is survived by children, Steven Saxe and Laurie Richards; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and five sisters.
