Barry Crawford, 63, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday. He was a devoted husband, proud father and grandfather and loyal friend.
He was born in Roaring Spring, son of the late Harold and Carol (Baker) Crawford.
Barry is survived by his wife, Teresa (England), whom he married on Nov. 8, 1986; as well as his two daughters and sons-in-law, Andrea Ritchey (Adrian) and Taylor Ridgeley (Benjamin). Bringing much joy to his life have been his six grandchildren: Evelyn, Amelia and Thomas Ritchey, and Isaiah, Samuel and Gabriel Ridgeley. He is also survived by a brother, Greg Crawford (Sherry); and an aunt, Rosella Ross (Danny).
A 1980 graduate of Northern Bedford County High School, he went on to receive his degree in accounting from the Pennsylvania State University in 1984.
He spent his entire career working for Bedford County, retiring as the Director of Finance in December 2016. Following his retirement, he enjoyed working part-time at Iron Masters Country Club in the Pro Shop.
Barry had a lifelong passion for sports that was first realized as a player, and then as a coach. He joined Northern Bedford's boys' basketball program as an assistant coach in 1984, eventually taking over as head coach, going on to achieve 200 wins. Barry later joined the girls' basketball program as an assistant coach, which he was proudly involved with until the time of his passing. He also spent 39 years as a coach for the Panther Jr. High Football team.
In May 2023, he was inducted into the Penn State Altoona Intercollegiate Athletics Hall of Fame for his accomplishments in basketball during the 1980-82 seasons. He was also inducted into the Bedford County Sports Hall of Fame in June 2025.
Outside of coaching, he found joy in spending time with his grandchildren, golfing, traveling to sporting events with his friends, listening to classic rock and doing the daily crossword puzzle. He also enjoyed giving back to his community and volunteering for various organizations.
A public memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 5, 2025, at Woodbury Church of the Brethren, where family and friends are invited to share in fellowship following the service. Private interment will be held at Koontz Church of the Brethren Cemetery at a later date.
Arrangements are by Fink & Stone Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc., Woodbury.
