Letter carriers collect 21 tons of food

Since 1991, the Blair-Bedford Labor Council and the Altoona post office along with the letter carriers have collected food every second Saturday in May with the exception of 2021 for COVID.

On May 9, more than 60 letter carriers and 18 volunteers collected food from all across the city of Altoona. The rain slowed things in the morning, but the pace picked up after lunch and the group ended up collecting 14 truckloads of food or about 21 tons.

Area food banks receiving supplies from the effort include Reapers, Altoona Food Bank, St. Vincent de Paul Soup Kitchen, St. Vincent de Paul pantry and Sacred Heart Food Bank.

Starting at $2.99/week.
