Blair County seeks National Opioid Settlement fund applications

Deadline to submit proposals is Oct. 15

HOLLIDAYSBURG — Blair County is again accepting applications from those interested in receiving a portion of its allocations from the National Opioid Settlement.

The county, which posted the solicitation on its website at www.blairco.org, is asking applicants to submit a maximum 12-page proposal, with attachments that must include a detailed budget on how the requested funds would be spent and who would benefit.

The application deadline is Oct. 15, with documents to be submitted via email to the county Director of Social Services Tricia Johnson at tjohnson@blaircountypa.gov.

Those eligible to ask for funds, based on rules governing distribution of the settlement funds, include private individuals or organizations, public or governmental agencies, community-based organizations, nonprofit organizations, tribes/tribal organizations and schools or school districts interested in providing products or services.

Applications are expected to be reviewed by an advisory committee, appointed by the commissioners, which includes Johnson; Chief Juvenile Probation Officer Joe Cox; Drew Yingling, chairman of the Altoona Area School District counseling program; Amy Martin-Shanafelt, executive director of Blair Health Choices; Colleen Heim, former director of Health Blair County Coalition; and Judy Rosser, director of Blair County Drug and Alcohol Partnerships.

In June, the commissioners awarded almost $375,000 for six proposals that the advisory committee recommended for funding. The six were among 15 proposals submitted to meet the county’s March deadline to apply for opioid settlement funds.

Starting at $2.99/week.
