Tyrone Area Chamber of Commerce adds 4 members
Business group pleased by turnout at local events
TYRONE — Four new members were approved at the Tyrone Area Chamber of Commerce’s monthly meeting Wednesday at the Bull Pen Restaurant, where members praised the turnout of recent events.
The chamber board approved reinstating Shannon Rice of The Brew Coffee & Tap as a chamber member and also voted to approve Jamie Ross of Jamie’s Diner, Wendy Grot of Tyrone City Brewing and Brian Bressler of the Camp Anderson Corp. as new members.
“We’d like to welcome them,” chamber President Diane Irwin said during the meeting, adding the chamber’s annual dinner in April was attended by about 100 people, roughly 30 more attendees than last year.
“We want to thank everybody who helped out with it,” Irwin said. “Thank you to everybody who helped out with (door prizes).”
According to Irwin, the Tyrone Events & Promotions committee is gearing up for its next event, the Hops and Vines craft beer, wine and spirits festival on Saturday, June 28.
There will be lots of fun vendors and live entertainment by Generation Acoustic Duo, the Chris Bell Band and “The Voice” contestant Ethan Eckenrode, Irwin said.
Rose Black, the chamber’s executive director, said there are three breweries, two distilleries and nine wineries signed up for the event so far, and there’s room for more organizations to get involved.
VIP admission for the event is $40 and begins at 4 p.m. General admission is $20 and begins at 5 p.m., Irwin said, noting tickets are available at the chamber’s office and online at tyronehopsandvines2025.eventbrite.com.
Black said both the Tyrone Improvement Group and Tyrone Events & Promotions are always looking for volunteers to help with the chamber’s events.
“We’re looking for any interested volunteers or help we could get. Even if you can’t make meetings, if you’d like to help with events, we always appreciate that,” Black said.
Chamber Secretary Chad Hunter said the improvement group’s food truck and vendor festival event in May “went well” and the group is looking forward to its upcoming festivals from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 7 and Aug. 2.
The improvement group is also planning to create a subcommittee for the second annual Lights in the Park event for the Christmas season, Hunter said.
Hunter said the Tyrone Race Series’ color blast fun run in April had about 241 participants, down 60 from last year’s race.
The group sold a lot of T-shirts this year, cut back its costs and had nearly 100 volunteers for the event, Hunter said, adding, “It was really nice. We really appreciate all the help we received for that.”
About 27 people have signed up for the upcoming Neptune Fire Company 5K run on June 14, Hunter said, noting that’s nine more than last year at this time and that there should be close to 100 participants for that race.
Hunter said the fire company has already received over $5,000 in sponsorships for the race.
“They’re doing a fantastic job,” he said, noting the Adam Zook Memorial Run will take place Sept. 27.
Hunter said the group plans to host the annual Zombie 5K trail run in October, the “Book It for Huntingdon Library” run in November and the Jingle Night Run in December, but dates for those races have not been set yet.
In other business, the chamber canceled its monthly breakfast meeting in May.
Black said the chamber had a speaker lined up for today but did not hear back from the individual in time to plan for the event.
Shawn Phillip of Clemens Food is scheduled to be the guest speaker at the June 19 breakfast meeting, Black said.
