The Allegheny Mountain Woodland Association will host a program on how geology and topography affect forest management from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 12, at the Ebensburg Borough Building Meeting Room, 300 W. High St. Scott Weikert, a forest resources educator with Penn State Extension, will discuss how local geology and topography influence soils, water, tree species and forest management decisions. Sale benefits musical group

Fundraiser yard sales to support the Keystone Regiment Drum and Bugle Corps will be held from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 11, and Saturday, Sept. 12, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 408 N. Sixth St., in the Juniata section of Altoona. Items will include antiques, furniture, appliances, household items, toys, books, seasonal items and craft supplies. All proceeds will be used to support the Altoona-based drum and bugle corps to help defray equipment and travel expenses for the upcoming season. Cambria County Arts & Heritage Festival set for Sept. 12-13 at Duman Lake Park

The ninth annual Cambria County Arts & Heritage Festival will be held Sept. 12-13 at Duman Lake Park, sponsored by the Laurel Highlands Historical Village. The two-day event will feature arts and crafts vendors, food vendors, artisans, nonprofit organizations, living history groups, military reenactors, antique tractors and community agencies. Sixteen downtown State College businesses and properties have been selected to receive funding through the Main Street Matters Facade Improvement Grant Program, supported by an $80,000 grant from the state Department of Community and Economic Development. Those planning to attend the local commemoration of the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks are encouraged to arrive early to experience a moving recognition of area emergency responders. The event will be held on Friday, Sept. 11, at the Jaffa Shrine in Altoona, sponsored by the 9/11 Anniversary Committee.
