ArtsAltoona, AASD pair up on ‘The Taming of the Shrew’

ArtsAltoona, in partnership with the Altoona Area School District, will present The Rustic Mechanicals' production of William Shakespeare's "The Taming of the Shrew" at 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 13, at the Altoona Area High School Black Box
Theater.
The performance is part of The Rustic Mechanicals' 2026 Howl at the Moon Tour. The West Virginia-based Shakespeare troupe is known for text-focused productions that combine Shakespeare's original language with humor and live acoustic music.
Directed by Jim Warren, the production brings contemporary energy to Shakespeare's comedy while remaining rooted in the original text. The play follows the contentious relationship between Katherine, a sharp-tongued woman, and Petruchio, an eccentric suitor, as the two engage in a battle of personalities and wit.
The Altoona visit also will include an educational opportunity for local students through ArtsAltoona's partnership with the Altoona Area School District.
The public performance is open to students, families, theater enthusiasts and those experiencing Shakespeare for the first time.
