The East Broad Top Railroad will operate Winter Train Excursions beginning Saturday, Feb. 21, offering visitors a rare opportunity to experience the railroad during the winter season. Running on Saturdays through April 25, the Winter Excursions provide a quieter, more relaxed way to enjoy the historic railroad and the winter scenery of the Aughwick Valley. These rides follow the Winter Spectacular and carry the season directly into the start of Easter on the Rails. Unlike peak-season operations, Winter Excursions focus on peaceful views, a slower pace, and an uncrowded experience, making them ideal for families, rail enthusiasts, and visitors looking to explore the East Broad Top during the off-season.

Trains will be powered by diesel locomotives, offering a comfortable and scenic ride suited to winter conditions. Passengers will ride in heated cars, keeping families warm and comfortable while taking in the winter views. Each excursion highlights the railroad’s history, and landscape. The Community Arts Center of Cambria County is bringing the second Log Art Theatre production of 2026 with “God’s Favorite” by Neil Simon. “God’s Favorite” is a modern, wildly hilarious twist on the biblical story of Job. In a new initiative to commemorate the 250th anniversary of American Independence, the Huntingdon County Active Transportation Committee and the Huntingdon County Visitors Bureau are proud to announce the #America250ActiveChallenge. This community-wide, self-paced challenge encourages residents and visitors to explore Huntingdon County’s rich history and natural beauty through a variety of recreational activities, with a unifying goal of 250 units.

The #America250ActiveChallenge is a year-long program designed to get people moving while celebrating the nation’s semiquincentennial in 2026. Participants are invited to choose one or more activities and complete 250 units of that activity, such as hiking 250 km, biking 250 miles, or successfully catching and releasing 250 fish.

The challenge offers a diverse range of activities to engage everyone, including:

– Hiking, Trail Running, or Backpacking: Log 250 km (155 miles) on trails like the Standing Stone Trail and Mid State Trail.

– Biking (Road or Gravel): Ride 250 miles on paved or gravel roads

– Mountain Biking: Log 250 km on singletrack trails such as the Allegrippis Trails at Raystown Lake.

– Fishing: Successfully catch and release 250 fish on local waterways like the Juniata River and Raystown Lake.

Wildlife Viewing & Photography: Log 250 unique wildlife observations or photos, partnering with organizations like the Juniata Valley Audubon Society and the Friends of Raystown Lake through their Wildlife Watch program.

– Other Activities: Participants can also complete 250-unit goals in disc golf, golf, canoeing/kayaking, lap swimming, rock climbing, or bowling. A multisport option allows participants to mix and match activities.

The challenge is open to everyone. Participants can track their progress using their favorite fitness app and are encouraged to share their journey on social media using the hashtag #America250ActiveChallenge to inspire others.
