The Klondike Derby was held Jan. 31 at Moshannon State Forest Wopsononock Tract in Allemans, Pa., and is an annual winter skills competition for scouts in Scouting America. Fourteen area troops participated in the competition.
During the Klondike Derby, patrols of scouts are scored on timed challenges to test skills such as fire building, primitive skills, forestry/nature, obstacle course, teamwork, knots/ropes/lashings, first aid, citizenship, rifle and shotgun.
Troop 3031 is sponsored by VFW Post No. 8724 of Duncansville. The troop meets from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday nights during the school year.
Boys ages 11 to 17 who are interested in joining may call Scoutmaster Bill Calvert at 814-650-1136.
