Johns
Cambria historical society to host presentation on Johnstown’s founder
The Cambria County Historical Society will host a presentation on the life and legacy of Johnstown’s founder, Joseph Johns, also known as Josef Schantz, at 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 12, at the Masonic Temple, 130 Valley Pike, Johnstown.
Jim Hostetler, president of the Cambria County Historical Society, will draw from his own Swiss-Mennonite heritage to delve into Johns’ journey to America and the motivations that drove him to establish the city of Johnstown.
In its 100th year, the historical society is reaching out to various venues across the county in order to make the community more aware of the Society and its presence in the area.
This is a unique opportunity for individuals of all ages to connect with local history and gain a deeper understanding of the figures who shaped the community but also view the unique architecture in the Masonic Temple.
For more information about the event, contact the Cambria County Historical Society at 814-472-6674 or email at awbuck@verizon.net.
All history talks are free and open to the public.
