Altoona library offers programs
The Altoona Area Public Library, 1600 Fifth Ave., Altoona, offers a variety of programs each month for patrons of all ages.

— Teen gamers are invited to take part in the gaming club from 3 to 5 p.m. Tuesdays. This program is in partnership with the Video Game Clubs of America and features something different each week — from tabletop board games, card games, Nintendo Switch and more. Registration required.
— The Lego club will meet at 6 p.m. Feb. 13. The program is geared for children 4 years old and older. Monthly registration and a library card is required.
— A free developmental playgroup, Focused on Foundations, meets at 9:30 a.m. Feb. 14. The group is designed to help parents and their children ages 3 younger work together to meet the child’s developmental goals. The playgroup is facilitated by an early childhood specialist and designed to provide fun activities to promote each child’s language, problem-solving, motor skills and social interactions. The topic is: child led play. Space is limited; registration is required.
— Valentine’s Day Storytime will be held at 3 p.m. Feb. 13 for children ages 12 and older. The afternoon storytime will be filled with stories about this love-ly day and participants will be given materials to make their own paper valentines. Registration required.
— From the Heart: Soaps and Bathbombs crafternoon will be held at 2 p.m. Feb. 15. Participants will make scented goat milk soap and fizzy bathbombs. This is a program for adult patrons; registration required.
— Crafting — 8-Bit Bead Earbud Holder for Teens — will be held at 3 p.m. Feb. 20. All materials will be provided for teens to create a fun cord holder using pearler beads. Registration required.
— Friends of the Library Book Club will meet at 10 a.m. Feb. 22. The book for this month is “Our Missing Hearts” by Celeste Ng. RSVP to SarahAAPL@yahoo.com. Memberships are $10 a year.
— AAPL Shelf Indulgence Adult Book Club meets at 10 a.m. Feb. 22. This is a BYOM (bring your own mug) with a choice of coffee or tea. The book for this month is “Such a Fun Age” by Kiley Reid. Registration required.
— Patrons are invited to pick up a Pinecone Bird Seed Feeder Kit on Feb. 24. Kits will be available starting at 9 a.m. and will be available while supplies last.
— Marvelous Machines: Prodigious Planes will be held at 3:30 p.m. Feb. 24 for students in second through fifth grades. This month the STEM program will explore the wedge. Kids will discover how this simple machine makes the impossible completely possible before soaring through the air with their own custom built paper airplane. Registration required.
— Teens are invited to Make Your Own Locker Magnets at 3 p.m. Feb. 27. Supplies will be provided. Registration required.
— Chess Club meets from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursdays. All are welcome. Meet at the rear tables on the first floor. No registration necessary. Anyone under the age of 16 must to be accompanied by their legal guardian.
— The library offers 30 minute Genealogy 1-on-1 appointments to help patrons get started using the digital resources and provides advice on how to stay organized and uncover family history. Call to reserve a time.
— Educational story times are available for children up to age 6, including the new Preschool Explorers for children ages 3 to 6. Check out altoonalibrary.org for more information.
