Toy Train Show set for March 24

A spring model train show is scheduled for 9 a.m. to

2 p.m. Sunday, March 24, at the Blair County Convention Center, One Convention Center Drive.

The event is sponsored by the Alto Model Train Museum Association and offers electric trains in O, O-27, S, HO and N scale, as well as a wide variety of new and used accessories. In addition, rail memorabilia and railroad books will be available.

The venue offers the opportunity to showcase the newest products from manufacturers such as Lionel, Bachmann, American Flyer, and American Models and others, as well as vintage stock offered to complete older collections. The event benefits the Alto Model Train Museum.

Admission is $5 for adults, which includes a chance on a Lionel train set. Children under 12 will be admitted free. Parking is free.

Club plans Pot of Gold Dinner-Dance

The Horseshoe Dance Club will hold its Pot of Gold Dinner-Dance March 20 at the Bavarian Hall Ballroom, 112 S. 13th St., Altoona. The doors will open at 5 p.m., with the buffet dinner at 5:30 p.m., followed by dancing from 6 to 9 p.m. Cost is $15 per person.

Lions plan breakfast, basket raffle

CRESSON — The Cresson Area Lions Club will hold a pancake and sausage breakfast, along with its annual basket raffle, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday, March 24, at the Cresson American Legion on Ashcroft Avenue.

Tickets are $8 for all-you-can-eat pancakes.

Trash & Treasure Sale accepting vendors

ALUM BANK — The Alum Bank Fire Company Auxiliary will hold a community Trash & Treasure Sale, Used Book/Puzzle & Bake Sale from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 27, at the Alum Bank Firehall, 6738 King St. Clair Road.

To reserve a table/space, call 814-839-2944 and leave your name and phone number. Cost is $20 per table. Following removal of your items from the premises at conclusion of the sale, $10 will be refunded.

Donations of lightly used books or puzzles can be made until April 20. Call to make arrangements for drop-off or pick-up.’

Altoona class of 1964 to meet for lunch

The Altoona Area High School Class of 1964 meets for lunch at 11:30 a.m. on the third Thursday of every month.

This month’s luncheon is on March 21 at Taps on 21 Tavern & Grill, 200 Pleasant Valley Blvd., Altoona.

Arts festival brings nonprofits together

Laurel Highlands Historical Village will sponsor a two-day Arts and Heritage Festival on Sept. 14 and 15 at Duman Lake Park, and they are inviting nonprofits to attend this event for free.

Executive Director Ron Shawley said, “Our event is in its sixth year, and we encourage nonprofits to come and set up a booth to showcase their efforts. We welcome EMS units, the various townships, the cities, hospitals, nursing homes and so many more. Our event is a time for Cambria County to showcase its past, its present and its future. A big part of the county is our nonprofit arena.”

This year, the festival will have musical entertainment, crafts and food vendors, artisans and encampments depicting the different military camps during different war eras.

SAMA to host 5K race fundraiser

The Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art in Altoona announced its highly anticipated new fundraiser, Art for Your Heart 5K Run & Walk, will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday, May 25, starting at SAMA Altoona

This heart-healthy event invites participants of all ages and fitness levels to run, walk and promote a healthy lifestyle while making a positive impact on the cultural vibrancy of the community. Runners and walkers alike will contribute to the continued success of the museum’s exhibitions, educational programs and community outreach initiatives.

Cost to preregister as either a runner or walker is $25, and will be $35 for all entries that sign up on the day of the race. Participants who register by May 3 are guaranteed an event T-shirt. Entries that sign up after May 3 or on the day of will receive T-shirts while supplies last.

Age groups range from 14 and younger through 60 and above. Separate medals will be awarded for the top three winners for male and female in each age group and for top three winners for male and female overall. ‘
