Woodland owners to hold conference
BEDFORD — The Woodland Owners of the Southern Alleghenies will host a conference for landowners, foresters, loggers and anyone who enjoys being in the woods on Saturday, March 9, at the Bedford American Legion, 3721 US 220 Business.
The conference, “Goods from the Woods,” is $15 for WOSA members, $20 for nonmembers and $10 for students. Registration and free refreshments begin at 8:30 a.m. Presentations begin at 9 a.m.
Conference highlights include talks on growing ramps and American Ginseng, how to make maple syrup and mushroom identification.
State Forester Seth Cassell is the keynote speaker and will explain what he has learned from his own property that will help him lead the Bureau of Forestry. There will be an update from the Pennsylvania Game Commission on chronic wasting disease (Bedford and Fulton counties are hotspots) and other wildlife issues.
Lunch is included, and there will be a silent auction, as well as a raffle for a battery-powered chainsaw. To guarantee lunch, send registration and payment by Wednesday, Feb. 28, to WOSA, P.O. Penn Cambria sets registration
The Penn Cambria Pre-Primary School will hold kindergarten registration March 13 and 14 by appointment only. Call 814-886-8166, ext. 1104, to arrange a time. You must take the child with you to registration.
A child must be 5 years old by Sept. 1. To register for the 2024-25 school year, the child’s birthday must be no later than Aug. 31, 2019.
ABATE to meet on first Tuesdays
HOLLIDAYSBURG — The Blair County Chapter of the Alliance of Bikers Aimed Toward Education will hold meetings at 6 p.m. on the first Tuesday of each month at at Campbell Hill, off Route 22.
Altoona Class of ’57 to hold reunion
The Altoona High School Class of 1957 will celebrate its 67th anniversary reunion on Sept. 13, 14 and 15 at The Blairmont Club, Hollidaysburg.
Friday and Saturday will be a buffet, with a brunch on Sunday. Complete information will follow at a later date.

Trout Unlimited to meet March 5
The John Kennedy Chapter of Trout Unlimited will hold its next monthly meeting from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, March 5, at the Allegheny Township Volunteer Fire Department Hall, 651 Sugar Run Road, Altoona.
The featured speaker will be Frank Nale of Tipton. Nale has been fishing with spinners for more than 45 years and is considered an authority on the subject.
His one-hour PowerPoint presentation is titled “Spin Fishing for Trout” and will cover tackle, technique, stream selection and why he enjoys fishing for reasons other than catching trout. Even people who don’t fish have enjoyed this free, open-to-the-public program.
Central Class of ’69 to meet Feb. 27
The Class of 1969 from Central High School, Martinsburg, will gather for dinner at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 27, at US Hotel, Hollidaysburg.
Horseshoe Dance Club to meet Feb. 21
The Horseshoe Dance Club will hold its Valentine’s Dinner Dance on Wednesday, Feb. 21, at the Bavarian Hall, 112 S. 13th St., Altoona.

Historical society plans indoor yard sale
BEDFORD — The Bedford County Historical Society will hold an indoor yard sale from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, Feb. 23, and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 24, in the second story of the barn, 6441 Lincoln Highway.

No clothing please. Items can be dropped off beginning Monday, Feb. 19. Donations will be accepted until noon Thursday, Feb. 22. The society is open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Proceeds from the yard sale benefit the society.
Glendale to register for kindergarten
FLINTON — Glendale Elementary School will hold kindergarten registration for the 2024-25 school year on Thursday, April 18, and Friday, April 19. Kindergarten students must be 5 years old on or before Sept. 1, 2024.

Democratic women to meet Tuesday
The Blair County Federation of Democratic Women will meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 20, at Perkins Restaurant, 3300 Pleasant Valley Blvd., Altoona.
All women who are registered Democrats are welcome to attend. The upcoming spring tea will be discussed.
