Military Food Share set for Monday
The Duncansville VFW 8724 will hold a Military Food Share on Monday, June 8, beginning at 11 a.m.
This is for all active military, veterans and widows or widowers of veterans living in Blair County. A military ID, DD214 or VA card and photo ID are required. Enter from Dunnings Highway/Newry Lane and line up on Turek Drive. Food shares are held on the second Monday of each month.
Nursing alumni to meet Monday
The Altoona/Mercy Schools of Nursing Alumni Association will hold the regular general meeting at 6 p.m. Monday, June 8, at Perkins Restaurant, 3300 Pleasant Valley Blvd., Altoona. Members are invited to attend.
Friends plan family fishing, movie night
The Friends of Canoe Creek will hold its annual Family Fishing Day from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, June 13.

740-424-0534. Supplies and staffing are limited for 25 kids aged 6 to 12 (accompanied by an adult). This is a free activity.
The Friends also will hold Saturday Night at the Movies on Saturday, June 27, at the park, Pavilion 2.
A smores campfire will start at 7:30 p.m., and the movie, “How To Train Your Dragon,” will start at 8:45 p.m. Bring snacks, refreshments, flashlights, chairs, blankets and bug spray. This is an alcohol, vape, smoke and drug-free event.
Class of 1960 to meet in Martinsburg
The Morrisons Cove High School Class of 1960 will meet at noon Wednesday, June 10, at the Bistro at the Village of Morrisons Cove, Martinsburg.
Spouses and friends are welcome.
Great Portage Yard Sale is June 13
The Portage Area Historical Society will hold the Great Portage Yard Sale from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 13. Yard sales are in both the borough and the township.
The day of the yard sales, attendees can download a map from the Portage Area Historical Society Facebook page to help plan their route through the area.
PPG retirees to hold reunion June 26
PPG Works 27 Retirees will hold a reunion at noon June 26 at DelGrosso’s Amusement Park Pavilion 3.
Bring your own food or buy at the park. DelGrosso’s is cashless. The pavilion does have electrical outlets if anyone brings crockpots or coffee pots, etc.
Bring your stories, pictures and mementos to share.
Ballroom dance to be held in Bellefonte
A ballroom dance will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, June 14, at Lambert Hall, Bellefonte, starting with a swing dance lesson.

White Shadow to perform June 13
The Alum Bank Community Volunteer Fire Company Auxiliary will host the band White Shadow from 6:30 to 10 p.m. Saturday, June 13, at the fire hall.

Indiana dancers install officers
The Indiana Ballroom Dance Club recently held its last dance of the season with a luau-themed dance with music by Murphys’ Big Little Band and a dinner buffet from the Home Made Restaurant.
Dancers and band members dressed to the theme. Officers for the 2026-27 dance season were installed at the band intermission.
They are secretaries Roberto and Barb Turnbull, vice presidents Jolene Joyner and Elaine Palmer, co-presidents Mary Ann and David Miller and Holly and Craig Miller, treasurers Hollie and John Uccellini and board members at large David and Terry Kelly and Earl and Linda Neiderhiser.

PARSE hears about benefits
The Pennsylvania Association of Retired State Employees, Blair, Bedford, Huntingdon Chapter 1-10 met May 19 at the American Legion Social Hall, Hollidaysburg.
Joan Matterness, PARSE central regional vice president, talked about the contract with United Concordia regarding dental insurance, the updating of membership records, the status of a cost of living adjustment and the various benefits from the Pennsylvania Employee Benefit Trust Fund. Matterness said members should be good consumers/shoppers and emphasized that she works for members.
Sharon Dell, chapter president, reported that two delegates were needed to attend the PARSE governing board meeting in September. Theresa Vaughn and Iris Hileman volunteered, along with Sharon Dell as the alternate.
The next chapter meeting is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 21, and will be a celebration of America 250.
All state retirees are invited to join PARSE where they will be kept informed of pertinent information while enjoying food and fellowship.

Chicken barbecue slated Father’s Day
The Phoenix Volunteer Fire Department will hold a Father’s Day Chicken Barbecue from 11 a.m. until sold out on Sunday, June 21, at 206 Wayne St., Hollidaysburg.
Cost is $14, which includes a half chicken, baked beans, coleslaw, macaroni salad, roll and butter.
Dinners are eat in or take out.
