Claysburg library announces programs

CLAYSBURG — In recognition of November as National Diabetes Awareness Month, the Claysburg Area Public Library will hold an informative program a 6 p.m. Monday, Nov. 15, at the library.

Christy Link of People One Health, a registered dietitian, will present information on controlling diabetes. Jennifer Jones of Gateway Health Plan arranged for Link to speak at the program. There will be time after the presentation to ask questions.

On Oct. 21, the library hosted “Murder in the Library.” Caleb Feathers, a third-grader at Claysburg-Kimmel Elementary School a book author, read his original Halloween story called “The Scary Mansion: Trap Master’s Game.”

Following the reading, guests were given clues to solve the “who done it.”

Craft classes are held at 6 p.m. on the first Thursday of each month at the library, including a Rag Wreath class today. You may make a fall wreath or a Christmas wreath.

All are welcome to participate.

Veterans invited to take part in parade Nov. 13

The Blair County War Veterans Council Veterans Day Parade will be held Saturday, Nov. 13, in downtown Altoona.

Line-up is at 10 a.m., and the parade begins at 10:30 a.m.

All veterans are invited to walk in the parade.

A bus will be available for those who are more comfortable riding.

There will be a service held downtown following the parade at 11th Avenue and 14th Street.

Donations to help support the veterans will be appreciated.

SRU to host fall Broadway Cabaret

SLIPPERY ROCK — Broadway-style cabaret will liven up the stage at Slippery Rock University as the Musical Theatre Society at SRU will perform two shows, 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 5, and 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 7, at the Swope Music Hall.

Forty-four students from a variety of majors and experience levels will perform. Local cast members include Morgan Chappell, a junior middle level science major from Ebensburg; Courtney Pier, a senior recreational therapy major from Blandburg; and Mikayla Puzzuto, a junor secondary education major from Curwensville.
