Ward Transport presents scholarships
Ward Transport & Logistics Corp. has announced the winners of its 2019 Ward Scholarship program.
This year’s recipients, Samantha Aljets and Sarah Bilger, were chosen on June 17.
Four finalists, which also included runners-up Julia Toby and Jordan Kepple, completed a written essay and individual interviews, toured the Ward General Office and sat in on a presentation by David Ward, vice president of Ward Logistics & Brokerage.
They also attended lunch with Ward family members and the scholarship judges: George Foster, vice president of Lamar Advertising; Janie Christner, vice president of home health at Home Nursing Agency, and David Kimmel, a retiree from the Office of Student & Civic Engagement at Penn State Altoona.
Originally established in 1957 with a single $500 award, the Ward Scholarship program has continued to grow and now provides $10,000 to two winners as well as a $500 prize for two runners-up annually.
Eligibility for the scholarship is open to the children of all full-time employees of Ward Transport & Logistics Corp., a non-union transportation solutions provider serving the mid-Atlantic region.
