Activities planned for Armed Forces Day
Armed Forces Day will be celebrated on May 20 at The Wall That Heals at the Van Zandt VA Medical Center on Pleasant Valley Boulevard, Altoona.
This year’s program will honor World War II servicemen.
Each serviceman wishing to be honored will receive a pin. Those wishing to be honored should contact Ivan Riggle at 935-3829 by May 7.
Displays by local service organizations and military equipment will open at 9 a.m.
There will be a concert of patriotic music provided during the day by the Forest Hills Community Band.
The Vietnam Veterans Honor Guard will advance the Colors, followed by the Jaffa Highlanders playing “Amazing Grace.”
The main program will begin at 2 p.m.
The main speaker will be Capt. Jeff Dietze, an Altoona native and a Bronze Star recipient.
WTAJ TV’s John Clay will be the master of ceremonies.
The ceremony will include a special recognition of World War II veterans.
The event will conclude with a wreath-laying ceremony at The Wall That Heals by local service organizations.
All organizations wishing to place a wreath should contact Patty Davis at 943-0261 by May 7.
