Athlete of the Week: Hinish slam leads C-K to title

Name: Payton Hinish School: Claysburg-Kimmel Age: 14 Grade: Freshman Sport: Softball Athlete of the week achievement: Hinish went 1-for-3, but her hit was a huge one. Trailing 1-0, Hinish hit an 0-2 pitch over the fence for a grand slam that put Claysburg-Kimmel ahead for good. She also drew a walk later in the game, and her pinch-runner scored another run. Season update: Hinish hit .367 with four home runs, three doubles and scored 11 runs for the 20-3 Lady Bulldogs this year. Claysburg-Kimmel will play Frazier today in the PIAA playoffs. Name: Owen Dombrosky School: Bishop Guilfoyle Catholic Age: 18 Grade: Senior Sport: Baseball Athlete of the week achievement: Dombrosky went 1-for-2 with two RBIs and two runs, and he threw one shutout inning in a 16-4 win over Juniata Valley in the District 6 1A quarterfinals. He then went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs while earning the victory with four-plus innings pitched in an 11-6 win over Williamsburg in the semifinals. Name: Emalee Cavender School: Claysburg-Kimmel Age: 17 Grade: Junior Sport: Softball Athlete of the week achievement: Cavender didn’t give up an earned run in 12 innings pitched as Claysburg-Kimmel advanced to the District 6 Class 1A final with a 10-0 win over Bishop McCort and an 8-1 win over Glendale. She also went 4-for-6 with three doubles and a triple, scored four runs and knocked in two runs. Season update: Cavender is hitting .535 with 38 hits, 31 RBIs, eight home runs and 32 stolen bases. Name: Josh Stolarski School: Penn Cambria Age: 17 Grade: Junior Sport: Track and field Athlete of the week achievement: Stolarski qualified for the PIAA Class 2A meet in Shippensburg in all four of his events, the 100-, 200- and 400-meter dashes and the long jump. He won District 6 titles in both the 200- and 400-meter dashes and set a meet record in the 200 of 21.82 seconds, breaking a mark set by Tyrone’s Nick Patton in 2016 of 21.87.
