Sharon K. (Miner) Howe, 65, of Altoona, passed away Monday. She was born in Altoona, daughter of the late Thomas and Kay (Miller) Miner. Her husband, Edward Howe II, also preceded her in death. Surviving are daughters, Amy and Sarah Howe; sons: Bruce and Max Goodman and Edward Howe III; five grandchildren; brothers, Tim and Craig Miner; and daughter by choice, Brenda Bryd. James Joseph “JJ” Johnston Sr., 65, of Woodbridge, Va., lost his hard-fought battle with cancer on Monday, Dec. 15, 2025. JJ passed peacefully in his sleep with his wife, Sandy, by his side. Richard Terrence Kane, 84, of Meadow View Nursing Center, Berlin, Pa., and formerly of Altoona, died Thursday. He was born in Altoona, a son of the late Walter A. and Reba I. (McCartney) Kane. Surviving are three siblings: James A. Kane, Sue K. Neilson and Debbie C. Smith. He served as a Private in the United States Army and was an avid golfer.
