What about older kids with special needs?

I am writing today about a problem families with special needs children will soon be facing — where to get help for Christmas.

I know a family who has a child with ADHD and autism who was told by Toys For Tots, the Salvation Army and other organizations that the child was over the age guideline.

Agewise, the child may be over the guidelines, but what about the age the child functions at or understands things at?

A child with special needs may be 16 but only functions and understands on a 5- to 6-year-old level.

How do you tell a child why there are no gifts for them?

There is no known organization that helps these families. Why can’t someone form an organization to help these families so everyone has a worry-free holiday?
