3 dead after exposure to substance
MOUNTAINAIR — New Mexico authorities say three people are dead and more than a dozen first responders were assessed for possible exposure to an unidentified substance after being called to a rural home for a suspected drug overdose.
New Mexico State Police say three of the four people who were found unresponsive inside the home east of Albuquerque have died.

Man jailed over Kirk post wins $835K
Tennessee officials will pay $835,000 to settle a lawsuit filed by a man who was jailed for more than a month over a Facebook post he made about the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.
Larry Bushart was arrested in September after he refused to take down a Facebook meme that read: “This seems relevant today …” and featured President Donald Trump and the words, “We have to get over it.” That quote, the meme explained, was said by Trump in 2024 after a school shooting.

Colbert’s run on ‘The Late Show’ ends
NEW YORK — Stephen Colbert’s run on “The Late Show” ends Thursday, marking the conclusion of his on-air feud with President Donald Trump.
CBS announced last summer that the show would end in May, citing economic reasons. However, Colbert and others suspect political pressure played a role.

Residents of capital told to shelter
VILNIUS — Lithuania’s president and prime minister have been taken to safe locations after a suspected drone was detected near the country’s border with Belarus.
Residents of Vilnius were told to take shelter, and airspace over Vilnius Airport was closed for about an hour on Wednesday. The alert came after military reports of drone activity in Belarus, though no drones were seen over Lithuania.

Assembly supports climate action
UNITED NATIONS — The U.N. General Assembly has voted overwhelmingly to support strong action to prevent climate change despite recent diplomatic efforts by the United States to have the measure withdrawn.
The 193-member world body approved a nonbinding resolution Wednesday endorsing the landmark advisory opinion by the U.N.’s top court last July that called failure by countries to protect the planet from climate change a violation of international law. The measure was opposed by the U.S., Russia, Iran and Saudi Arabia.

Ukraine ally eases Russian oil sanctions
LONDON — Prime Minister Keir Starmer insists that Britain’s support for Ukraine remains strong, despite the U.K. delaying some new sanctions on Russian oil.
It says it is protecting consumers from rising costs due to the closure of the Strait of Hormuz in the Iran war.
