PVCA names selections for All-District 6 teams

The Pennsylvania Volleyball Coaches Association named its All-District 6 teams recently. In Class 3A, Altoona’s Caleb Fries, Garrett Baumgartner, Landen Fisher and Sam Kessinger made the squad, joined by State College’s Derrick Campbell, Carter Weight, Kadin Karacky and Kieran Leahey. In Class 2A, Bishop Guilfoyle Catholic’s Ian Bennet made the team. BG boys volleyball season ends in loss

RURAL VALLEY — West Shamokin swept Bishop Guilfoyle Catholic, 25-8, 25-12, 25-17, in the District 6 Class 2A high school boys volleyball semifinals Wednesday night. Despite the loss, senior Ian Bennett finished with 1,500 assists in his three years with the Marauders. Bennett, who is headed to Juniata to play football in college, had 22 assists, four service points, a dig and a block for BG on Wednesday. Winning pitcher Connor Blough tossed 3ª innings of one-hit relief Saturday afternoon at Mansion Park to lead the Altoona Area High School baseball team to a 9-6 victory over DuBois. Blough struck out seven and walked no one, and also added two hits and an RBI as Altoona improved its record to 8-10.
