Altoona baseball team falls short to Williamsport

Williamsport improved to 13-1 on the season with a 6-4 victory over Altoona on senior day Saturday afternoon at Mansion Park in high school baseball.

Williamsport added on to a 2-1 lead with two runs each in each of the final two innings.

Altoona’s seventh-inning rally plated three runs but came up short. Cole Deitrick collected three hits and an RBI, and Lucas Naughton added two hits and two RBIs to lead Williamsport.

Tanner Stroup, Nick Kraft and Connor Waite paced Altoona with two hits each, and Waite drove in two runs.

Panthers defeated

CRESSON — Bald Eagle Area topped Penn Cambria, 9-5, by scoring three runs in three separate innings in a high school baseball game on Sunday.

Caden Gibbons went 3-for-4 for the Panthers, and Ayden Himmer added two hits and two RBIs for Penn Cambria.

Tyrone topped

TYRONE — Sage Harris had three hits, but Tyrone fell to Southern Huntingdon, 3-1, in high school softball on Saturday.

Ally McNelis and Madison Harper each had two hits for the Lady Eagles.

Ella Young limited Tyrone to one run and struck out nine batters for Southern Huntingdon.

CRESSON — Casey Angellotti was a triple shy of the cycle and drove in four runs to lift Bald Eagle Area to a 16-3 win over Penn Cambria in high school softball on Sunday.

Emily Farabaugh and Emily Cully each added two hits for the Lady Panthers.

Lions ninth

STATE COLLEGE — Altoona lost to Hempfield, 25-12, in the playoffs of the State College Little Lion Invitational in high school boys volleyball on Saturday.

The Mountain Lions finished ninth out of 12 teams.

In pool play, Altoona fell to Hempfield, 25-23, 25-14, lost to Cumberland Valley, 25-15, 25-16, dropped two to Meadville, 25-10, 25-12, and were defeated by Central York, 25-13, 25-21.

Max Coon had 11 service points, six kills, 32 assists, nine digs, three aces and a block for Altoona. Parker Huey-Kish added 10 kills, 17 digs, two blocks and an ace, and Caleb Terza had 10 kills, 17 assists, 11 digs and two blocks for the Lions.

Logan Coldwell added a team-high 22 digs.
