Mounties knock off Lady Lions in AMCC softball

DuBOIS — The No. 2 seed Penn State Altoona softball team competed on day two of the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Championship tournament, getting upset by No. 6 seed Mount Aloysius, 4-0, Thursday.
The Lady Lions will play Pitt-Bradford at 2 p..m. while Mount Aloysius takes on Penn State Behrend at noon.
Penn State Altoona is 22-14 while the Mount improved to 14-23.
After a scoreless start, the Mounties broke through in the top of the sixth inning, scoring a run before adding three more in the top of the seventh.
Olivia Werkheiser was a perfect 3-for-3 for the Lady Lions. The Mounties got a home run from Ava Doyle. Aislinn Myers singled home Maggie Cypher with another run. Hanna Stedman doubled home two more.
Wright adds more
UNIVERSITY PARK — Penn State women’s basketball head coach Tanisha Wright announced the signing of graduate transfer Enjulina Gonzalez to her 2026-27 roster.
Gonzalez becomes the fifth portal addition for Wright in the off season. She arrives in Happy Valley after two seasons at Mercer, one at Miami Ohio and one at Georgia.
Most recently, she spent her senior season playing for the Bulldogs during a run to the NCAA Tournament. Gonzalez played in 32 games, making one start throughout her season in the peach state. She averaged 3.2 points and 1.7 rebounds per game.
Softball honors
UNIVERSITY PARK — Penn State softball freshman infielder Allison Oneacre was named a top-10 finalist for the National Freshman of the Year award on Thursday.
Oneacre already owns the Nittany Lion single-season RBI record, driving in 56 through this point in the season. She also boasts the freshman home run record with 18, ranking second in a single-season all-time behind Cassidy Bell, who mashed 30 homers during her senior year in 2013.
Oneacre is also first on the team in batting average (.370), OPS (1.303), doubles (13), home runs (18) and slugging percentage (.805).
