MANCHESTER, England — Pep Guardiola is leaving Manchester City at the end of the season.
It will bring to a close a trophy-laden, 10-year spell in which he established City as a forces in Europe while changing the face of English soccer. Guardiola has one year left on his City contract but he will take charge of his final game on Sunday against Aston Villa in the Premier League.
City said Guardiola will become a global ambassador and it is naming its newly developed stand at Etihad Stadium after him. Since joining City in the summer of 2016 Guardiola has led the Abu Dhabi-owned team to six Premier League titles and a first Champions League crown in 2023.
Enhanced Games set
LAS VEGAS — The event that tackles the age-old question, “What would happen if we just let all the athletes take drugs?” has arrived.
“The Enhanced Games,” featuring 50 athletes who will compete in track, swimming and weightlifting, is set for Sunday in Las Vegas. There are no restrictions on what kind of performance enhancers these athletes can take, though organizers say they’re holding them to strict medical protocols to ensure safety.
There are prizes of $250,000 for winners and up to $1 million for some world-record breakers. Among those to watch include 2022 100-meter sprint world champion Fred Kerley.
Stars pay tribute to tennis writer
PARIS — Rafael Nadal, Coco Gauff and Jessica Pegula were among the players paying tribute to Howard Fendrich a day after the longtime AP Tennis Writer died.
Nadal wrote on X that “Tennis loses one of its great journalists.” Gauff opened her news conference as the defending champion at the French Open with a statement about Fendrich. She said “he was someone I always enjoyed having conversations with. One of my favorite faces to see in the room.”
Fendrich died Thursday after being diagnosed with cancer in February. He was 55. Fendrich had been AP’s tennis writer since 2002.
Fendrich was based in Washington and the city’s football, baseball and hockey teams also extended their condolences.
Kim just misses on shooting 59
McKINNEY, Texas — Si Woo Kim just missed out on a 59 at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson on Friday, bogeying the final hole when a par would have given him the 16th sub-60 round in PGA Tour history.
The 30-year-old South Korean put himself in position to break 60 with a curling 17-foot birdie putt from the fringe on the par-3 17th hole at TPC Craig Ranch.
It was his 12th birdie of the day, putting him at 12 under on the par-71 layout. Kim was in the fairway on the 18th, but blasted his second shot over the green and failed to get up and down.
Canada moves record to 5-0
FRIBOURG, Switzerland — Canada beat Slovenia 3-1 at the ice hockey world championship in Switzerland on Friday.
Canada is a perfect five wins from five games.
Emmitt Finnie has led with a goal and an assist. Denton Mateychuk and Dylan Cozens also scored. Jet Greaves stopped 13 shots.
Blackwell now going to Duke
Former Wisconsin guard John Blackwell is withdrawing from the NBA draft and will play at Duke next season.
Blackwell announced his decision Friday on Instagram.
Blackwell averaged 19.1 points, 5.1 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game last season, teaming with Nick Boyd to give Wisconsin one of the nation’s top backcourt tandems.
