Shaver’s Creek center reopening to public

PETERSBURG — Shaver’s Creek Environmental Center has reopened to the public with expanded parking, improved accessibility and upgraded stormwater infrastructure following a multi-month improvement project.

The reopening comes on the heels of the center’s recent 50th anniversary celebration, which brought together community members, supporters and current and former staff and students to mark the milestone.

“We’re thrilled to welcome the public back to Shaver’s Creek,” Anna George, Shaver’s Creek executive director, said. “We’re incredibly grateful for the patience and support our community has shown during this project, and these improvements allow us to better serve our visitors and welcome even more to our community, while still protecting the natural environment that makes Shaver’s Creek so special.”

The newly renovated parking area includes expanded free parking capacity, an upgraded stormwater management system and improved accessibility features designed to better accommodate all visitors.

The updated layout also introduces a new traffic flow pattern, and guests are encouraged to follow posted signage when arriving on-site.

Shaver’s Creek has resumed its regular operating hours and is now open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. While most construction is complete, minor finishing work will continue over the coming weeks, and visitors are advised to be mindful of active work areas during this time.

Guests are invited to explore everything the center has to offer, from visiting resident wildlife to participating in educational programs, enjoying miles of scenic trails and more.

Shaver’s Creek Environmental Center is a unit of Penn State Outreach and serves as a hub for environmental education, conservation and outdoor recreation in central Pennsylvania.
