Tyrone’s Scott headed to Pitt

Tyrone junior star Kyle Scott has committed to wrestle for the University of Pittsburgh, according to a Facebook post on Thursday night.

“Super excited to announce my academic and athletic commitment to the University of Pittsburgh!” Scott posted. “Couldn’t thank my family and coach enough. Go Panthers!!”

Scott, who placed fourth at 189 at the PIAA Class 2A Championships for his second state medal, went 42-6 with 15 technical falls and 15 falls. He was a runner-up at the District 6 Tournament and the Southwest Regional.

SOFTBALL

Peterson perfect

WILLIAMSBURG — Madison Peterson pitched three innings of perfect softball, leading the Glendale Lady Vikings to a 17-5 five-inning win over Williamsburg in high school action on Thursday.

Peterson faced nine batters and struck out all nine. She did not give up a walk or a hit as Glendale won for the first time (1-3).

On offense, she had two doubles and two RBIs. Teammate Jayden Fry added three hits and two runs scored to go with two hits and two RBIs from Macy Snyder. Hannah Simmers and Mya Markel each added two RBIs.

Williamsburg (0-4) got two RBIs each from Rylee Stultz and Karsyn Walters.

Mustangs tamed

PORTAGE — Mikaila McCoy had three hits and an RBI for Portage in a 7-3 loss to Northern Cambria.

Kendall Stancovich also homered for the Lady Mustangs (0-7).

Ava Messina had two hits, including a homer, and two RBIs for the Lady Colts (2-3). Winning pitcher Julia Mitory struck out six and gave up just one earned run in seven innings.

HARRISBURG — The Altoona Area High School boys volleyball team dropped to 1-4 Thursday night, losing at Central Dauphin, 25-14, 25-20, 25-11.

The Mountain Lions got 11 kills from Lukas Weathersbee, 10 digs from Nino Yohn, 23 assists from Caleb Terza and nine digs from Luke Mitchell. Teammate Logan Coldwell added five digs.
