Flash beat Merrimack

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. — Marlon Hargis scored 15 points, and the Saint Francis men’s basketball team defeated Merrimack, 62-46, on Saturday, handing the Warriors their first Northeast Conference loss of the season.

Maxwell Land added 13 points and Josh Cohen 12 for the Red Flash (5-11, 1-4), who ended a six-game losing streak.

Malik Edmead scored 13 points and Jordan Minor had 11 points and 10 rebounds for Merrimack (8-9, 4-1).

Land registered 10 of his 13 points in a decisive 24-2 run in the first half. Merrimack never cut it to single digits after the spurt by the Loretto program.

“After a long road trip, I am impressed with the way these guys came out and played,” Saint Francis coach Rob Krimmel said. “We got off to a slow start, but we weathered the storm and came back, and I thought we were able to do some very good things defensively. Our challenge now is to put 40 minutes together in back-to-back games against a very talented Bryant team on Monday.

“These guys need to enjoy this one. They keep coming to practice, they love to compete, they love to travel with each other and we are very pleased with the way we executed the game plan. With the guys that played the bulk of the minutes, I was really impressed with Zahree (Harrison), Luke (Ruggery) and Jeriah (Coleman). Those three guys came off the bench and gave us a huge lift and it is nice to see their progression as players and the patience that they have shown. When their number is called, they have produced.”
