Sabol helps Curve prevail

HARRISBURG — The Curve got some excellent pitching over the weekend, and the offense did just enough in one of the two games to at least slip out of town here with one victory. Harrisburg beat Altoona on Saturday night, 2-1, then the Curve salvaged the final game of the series with a 3-2 victory in 10 innings Sunday afternoon at FNB Field. Blake Sabol homered in the eighth inning Sunday for a 2-1 lead, but Harrisburg pulled even in its half of the frame. HARRISBURG — The Curve entered the All-Star break riding a four-game winning streak, but that came to an end in the first game back from the break Friday night. Harrisburg built a cushion early and held on late for a 7-5 win over Altoona at FNB Field. It was the Curve’s first game since Sunday, and the loss knocked them out of first place as Bowie moved a half-game ahead in the Southwest Division standings. Richmond chose to sacrifice bunt twice late in Wednesday’s game against the Curve, and doing so in the ninth inning helped the Flying Squirrels escape with a 5-3 win before 4,023 fans at Peoples Natural Gas Field.
