Altoona beats Central in 5 sets

MARTINSBURG — The Altoona Area High School boys volleyball team improved to 4-9 Tuesday night, thanks to a 23-25, 23-25, 25-22, 25-18, 15-12 win at Central.
The Mountain Lions got 24 assists, 21 kills and 10 digs from Caleb Terza to go with 27 assists, 17 digs and 14 kills from Max Coon, who also added 13 service points. Teammate Parker Huey-Kish contributed 15 digs while Colson Greenleaf added 39 digs.
The Scarlet Dragons (6-4) got 15 kills from Blake Reynolds while teammate Christian Heuston added 14. Colby Gojmerac led all servers with nine points while Landon Rhodes finished up with 35 assists.
Before the match, Central recognized players and coaches from the program’s first season, 35 years ago in 1991, as well as then athletic director Scott King. Coaches were Jerry Bassler and Mary Baker, and players were seniors Christian Blattenberger, Jeff Frye, Jeff Hinish, Dan Hoover, Scott Miller and Andy Ritchey, juniors Craig Claycomb, Eric Dilling, Tim Edminston, Dave Horetsky and Travis Wright, sophomores Shane Garner, Caleb Stiffler and John Weaver, and freshmen Herbie Burns, Dan Dick, Brian Edwards, Jason Hartman, Andy Hoover, Doug Kensinger, Mark Lingenfelter, Bruce Stewart and Aaron Weaver.
Ken Streilein, who volunteered to referee every game that season, was also recognized.
