St. Jude Triduum mass scheduled

Spiritual notes

St. Mark’s Catholic Church, 416 Sixth Ave., Altoona, will hold its annual St. Jude Triduum with Mass at 5:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 24, the first day of the Triduum. The second day of the Triduum will be Monday, Oct. 27, with Mass at 5:30 p.m., and the third day of the Triduum will be Tuesday, Oct. 28, with Mass at 5:30 p.m.

Father Nelson Javier, T.O.R., will be celebrant and homilist at the masses. Triduum prayers will be prayed at each Mass followed by Veneration of the Relic of St. Jude. St. Jude is the Patron of Hopeless Cases.

Trunk or treat events offered

— St. John the Evangelist Church in Lakemont will host its annual trunk or treat Sunday, Oct. 26, beginning at 12:30 p.m. in the parking lot. Following the trunk or treat, the Lakemont Fire Hall will host their annual Halloween parade and activities beginning at 1:30 p.m.

— Newry Lutheran Church, 1030 Shamrock Lane, will offer Trunk or Treat from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 26, in the church parking lot. The family-friendly event will offer free hot dogs and refreshments, kids’ games, coffee and hot chocolate from Dark Bean Coffee Co. food truck, and lots of candy. All are welcome.

— Calvary United Methodist Church, 167 Blue Ball Road, West Decatur, will hold Treats from the Trunk from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 26. A parade will be held at 4 p.m. Parade set up will be in the Boggs Township lot across from the church. If inclement weather, the event will be held in the church basement.

— Trunk or Treat will be held 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 30, at Twenty-eighth Street Church of the Brethren, 28th Street and Union Avenue.

— Wehnwood United Methodist Church will host “Let it shine” trunk or treat from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 30.

— Grace Bible Church, 164 Laurel Lane, Hollidaysburg, will host trunk or treat from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 30.

String ensemble to perform

The Wehnwood String Ensemble will be performing a free concert of folk tunes from around the world at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 2, at St. Augustine Catholic Church, 803 St. Augustine Road, Dysart.

Organ recital, hymn sing

Second Avenue Global Methodist Church, 130 Second Ave., Altoona, will host a free organ recital and hymn sing at 6 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 26. The concert is free and open to the public, and will feature Braydon Nihart (Second Avenue’s organist), as well as Matthew Sprinkle and Paul D. Kuzmiak.

Pancake breakfast to be served

St. John’s Reformed Church, 906 Maple Ave., Hollidaysburg, will host a pancake breakfast from 8 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 25. Tickets are $8 for adults; $4 for youth 3-12; and free to children under 3, and will be available at the door. The menu includes pancakes, sausage, bacon, juice and coffee or tea.

Food pantry distribution set

The food pantry at Twenty-eighth Street Church of the Brethren, 28th Street and Union Avenue, is available for those in need. Distribution will be held from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 24, by appointment only. Call Deb at 814-207-8293.

Yard sale scheduled

St. Mark’s Catholic Church, 416 Sixth Ave., Altoona, will be having an indoor yard sale in the basement of the church from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 24, and Saturday, Oct. 25. There are 44 vendors with a large variety of merchandise and a great selection of merchandise on the additional church tables. The kitchen will be serving hot food and baked goods.

Patriotic rosary planned

A patriotic rosary ceremony and benediction will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 1, with Bishop Mark L. Bartchak and the Catholic Daughters of the Americas at St. Michael the Archangel Church, 301 Spruce St., Hollidaysburg. Refreshments will be served after the service.

The Rosary is spoken with writings from our Founding Fathers read after each rosary decade.

This service prays for discernment, wisdom and knowledge for all voters as we consider voting on Election Day.

Church to host fall fun fest

Faith Baptist Church of Altoona will hold its Faith Fall Family Fun Fest from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 1, with activities and food for all ages. The event is free of charge.

Using oil paints, the Good News about Jesus Christ will be presented. Gift baskets will be awarded at the end of the event from a drawing.

The festivities will be held outside at the church, 315 40th St., Altoona. This event is rain or shine. Activities include a bungee run, an apple slingshot, plinko and a variety of other games and challenges.

Soup, chili sale set

First Presbyterian Church of Cresson, Keystone Avenue and Third Street, will hold their annual soup and chili sale from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 4.

Spaghetti dinner served

Raystown Brethren Church, 129 Winterberry Lane, Saxton, will serve a spaghetti dinner from 3 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 8. The meal includes meatballs and spaghetti, garlic toast, a gourmet salad bar, dessert and beverage. Cost is by donation. Takeouts are available.

Healing Mass planned

Holy Spirit Ministry will hold a Healing Mass at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 4, at St. Michael Church, Hollidaysburg. Praise and worship starts at 6:30 p.m. Father Jeremy Mohler will be the main celebrant with Father David Dodd, T.O.R.; Father Brad Baldwin, T.O.R; Father Christopher

Panagoplos, T.O.R; Father Justin Treon and Ukrainian Rite Father James Davidson will be con-celebrants.

There will be sacramental anointing, confessions and prayer ministry following Mass.
