Joan Margaret Ochranek

She was born in Blandburg, daughter of the late Bruno and Lois (Miller) Franks. On June 28, 1947, she married John A. “Bun” Ochranek in Blandburg. Bun died Feb. 13, 2004.

She was also preceded in death by a son and daughter-in-law, Roger and LouAnn Ochranek; three brothers: Lee Franks, Tom Franks and Lawrence Franks; and two sisters, Maxine Burns and Lorraine Forbes.

Surviving are three children: John A. (Jen Czoch) Ochranek Jr. of Fleetwood, Teresa L. (Chris) Bender of Philipsburg and Dale A. Franks of Altoona; 16 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren, with one on the way.

Joan was a 1946 graduate of Reade Township High School and was owner and operator of Jo’s Confectionary in Altoona. She was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Altoona.

She enjoyed playing bingo and volunteered at the Altoona Hospital for many years. She loved spending time with her numerous grandchildren and was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers and Penn State football fan.

Friends will be received from 11 a.m. until the 1 p.m. funeral service Tuesday, June 2, 2026, at McQuown Funeral Home, Glasgow, with Father Robert Reese officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Glasgow.
