Mark Rydell, the Oscar-nominated director of ‘On Golden Pond,’ dies at 97

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Mark Rydell, the Oscar-nominated director of the sentimental blockbuster “On Golden Pond” who worked with such Hollywood heavyweights as Henry Fonda, Katharine Hepburn, Steve McQueen and John Wayne, has died. He was 97. Junior Lee Iddings, 88, of Tyrone, died Aug. 6, 2026, at his residence. He was born in Tyrone, the son of the late Reuben Samuel and Bessie Irene (Summers) Iddings. He was married on Jan. 23, 1965, to Patricia Keller, who survives.
