John Franklin Moser Sr., 70, Altoona, passed away Monday at his residence. He was born in Newport News, Va., son of the late William E. and Thelma (Foust) Moser.
John married the love of his life, Vera E. (Graves) Moser, who preceded him in death Aug. 27, 2013. Together they built a beautiful family and created lasting memories.
Surviving are his six children: Carrie Moser (Brian), John Moser Jr. (Colleen), Matthew Moser (Ailisa), Daniel Moser (Kelsey), Joseph Moser (Alicia) and Timothy Moser (Danielle). He was a loving and cherished Pappy to his 26 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. John is also survived by two sisters, Idella Moser and Marilyn Northcut.
His life was marked by the loss of several siblings who preceded him in death: Ruth Weyandt, Roy Moser, Thelma Shaffer, William Moser Jr., Margaret Williams, Charles Moser and Elmer Moser.
During the Vietnam War, John proudly served his country, demonstrating his unwavering dedication and commitment. He was a member of the VFW in Juniata and held a special place as the Commander at the VFW in Delphi, Indiana, from 1984-85. As a member of the American Legion Post 682, John contributed to the community and showed his loyalty to his fellow servicemen.
While John’s service to his country was admirable, his true joy came from his family. He cherished every moment spent with his loved ones. His great-grandson, Eli, held a special place in his heart, and John spent countless hours enjoying their time together, creating a bond that will forever be cherished.
John Franklin Moser Sr. will be remembered as a devoted family man, a respected veteran and a friend to many. His legacy of love, dedication and service will continue to inspire and touch the lives of all who knew him.
In accordance with John’s wishes, there will be no formal service held.
To honor his service, a graveside ceremony, with full military honors, will take place at Alto-Reste Park, on a later date.
