The latest death involved an 18-year-old resident of Mifflin County, in the center of the state, the county coroner’s office said in a Facebook post. The cause was acute disseminated encephalomyelitis, a rare and severe neurological complication of measles, it said. PUC study warns of grid reliability

The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) warns that rapidly growing demand for electric power fueled by data centers can create serious supply risks. The PUC released an independent analysis conducted by Synapse Energy Economics this week finding that the current load forecast for the regional electric grid will fail to meet the reliability standard set by grid operator PJM starting next year. By 2030, the model for reliability risk is nearly six times worse than PJM’s planning standard, the PUC said. “This result is mainly due to large-load additions stemming from data ...

Top Court decision protects Pa. mail voting

A Monday Supreme Court ruling rejecting a proposal by President Donald Trump to use the U.S. Postal Service to restrict the use of mail-in voting represents a “major victory for Pennsylvania voters,” Pennsylvania Secretary of State Al Schmidt said at a Tuesday afternoon press briefing. The decision, also “importantly, provides much needed finality for voters and counties ahead of this year’s election,” Schmidt said. “Nothing has changed about voting by mail in Pennsylvania. Any eligible Pennsylvanians who choose to vote by mail should have confidence that they can continue ...
