Van Zandt VA Medical Center to hold Armed Forces Day event
An Armed Forces Day ceremony will be held from 10:30 to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 16, at the Van Zandt VA Medical Center, 2907 Pleasant Valley Blvd., Altoona, near the Wall that Heals.
The medical center has partnered with the Blair County Armed Forces Day Committee to host the event.
The event is free and open to the public.
Armed Forces Day was signed as a Presidential Proclamation in February of 1950 that would be celebrated on the third Saturday of May every year. This ceremony will honor and celebrate military members who are currently serving our country.
Members from Legion Riders Post 516 will be presenting the colors for the event and the Forest Hills Community Band will be playing patriotic music before the ceremony starting at 10:30 a.m. Interim medical center Director David DiGiacomo will be speaking as well as veteran and new Chief of Stakeholder Relations Tim Hileman.
A light lunch will be provided after the event courtesy of the Horseshoe Curve chapter of the Harley Owners Group and CareSmart Solutions Inc.
