Reservoir Road work begins

Minor delays can be expected on Reservoir Road between Route 22 and Loop Road in Frankstown Township, Blair County, from Monday, May 11, through Friday, May 15.

PennDOT said highway painting and sign removal on Reservoir Road will be conducted between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. There will be lane restrictions and short delays of three to five minutes as the project moves forward.

New Enterprise Stone & Lime, New Enterprise, is the lead contractor for the $529,859 project, which includes minor drainage work, ditch cleaning, minor full-depth patch work, paving overlay, guide rail replacement and sign replacements. The project is expected to be completed in late June and is weather dependent.

Lengthy delays on Piney Creek Road

Lane restrictions and lengthy delays will continue on High Street and Piney Creek Road in Williamsburg Borough and Woodbury Township, Blair County, from Monday, May 11, to Friday, May 22.

Delays may be up to 15 minutes during daylight hours, PennDOT said, as crews continue drainage pipe construction and impact basin installation along the route.

New Enterprise Stone & Lime, New Enterprise, is the lead contractor for the 1.5-mile, $2.6 million project, which includes tree trimming, drainage improvements, asphalt resurfacing and pedestrian upgrades on Route 866 from one-half mile west of T-394 (Ridge Road) to First Street/Canal Street in Williamsburg.

The project is expected to be completed in November.    

Mill Run Bridge project underway

There will be single-lane restrictions and lengthy delays on Route 36 (Union Avenue) for the Mill Run Bridge project in Altoona from Monday, May 11, to Friday, May 22.

Beginning May 11, the lead contractor will be conducting concrete repair work, installing survey markers, re-seeding and making adjustments to manhole and vale boxes along the route.

Beginning May 18, the contractor plans to install a High-Friction Surface Treatment and pavement markings at multiple locations on Route 36 from Plank Road to 31st Street.

Cottle’s Asphalt Maintenance Inc., of Everett, is the contractor for the $7.4 million project, which includes a bridge replacement on Route 36 (Union Avenue) over Mill Run near the intersection of 31st Street, as well as resurfacing on Route 36 from Frankstown Road to Mill Run Road, on Beale Avenue from 24th Street to Union Avenue, and on Union Avenue from Beale Avenue to Route 36 in City of Altoona and Logan Township.

The project includes the addition of a left turn lane, intersection modifications, paving of the roadway approaches, sign upgrades, pavement marking upgrades, guide rail upgrades, drainage improvements, high friction surface treatment, ADA upgrades and tree removal/trimming.

Lane closures on I-99 continue

Lane restrictions, shoulder-width reductions and the potential for short delays continue on I-99 between the Exit 15 Claysburg/King interchange outside Sproul at mile marker 15 to the Newry crossover on I-99 near mile marker 26.

From Monday, May 11, to Friday, May 22, drivers can expect lane restrictions, a speed reduction to 60 mph, and short, intermittent delays in both the northbound and southbound lanes from about mile marker 22 to mile marker 26 for rumble strip removal and paving in preparation for the long-term lane closures later in the project.

The East Freedom interchange bridge over I-99 remains under an 8-feet, 5-inch width reduction in both the eastbound and westbound lanes for bridge rehabilitation work.

Glenn O. Hawbaker Inc., State College, is the lead contractor of the 23.02-mile, $24 million project, which includes overlay paving, the rehabilitation of seven dual bridges (four during the 2026 construction season) and the Exit 23 (Roaring Spring/Portage) bridge over I-99, and the installation of five intelligent transportation system dynamic message boards in Allegheny, Blair, Freedom and Greenfield townships in Blair County.

The overall project is scheduled for completion in June 2028.

Short-term delays likely in Blair Twp.

Short-term delays on I-99 between mile marker 26 in Blair Township and mile marker 33 near the 17th Street Exit in Blair County will continue through Friday, May 22.

From Monday, May 11, through Friday, May 22, drivers can anticipate short delays for highway markings, grading, delineation and reflective tape application.

New Enterprise Stone and Lime, Inc., New Enterprise, is the contractor for the $26.7 million project, which includes improvements along 10 miles of I-99 from the median cross-over near Newry to 17th Street exit and Tyrone in Blair County.
