Two men were taken into custody after the apprehension of one of the men for parole violations led officers to discover narcotics within his vehicle.
Altoona resident Edward Darwin Johnson IV, 47, and Coalport resident Curtis Jerome Brice Frazier, 31, were arraigned Tuesday by Magisterial District Judge Benjamin F. Jones on identical charges of two felony counts each of possession with intent to deliver and conspiracy to commit possession with intent to deliver, as well as two misdemeanor counts of possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. Bail for the pair was set at $250,000 each and they were remanded to the Blair County Prison after being unable to pay.
Johnson was also arraigned Tuesday by Jones in a separate but related case, in which he was charged with three felony counts of failure to provide accurate registration information. Bail in that case was set at $25,000 unsecured.
Altoona police were dispatched Tuesday to assist State Parole and Probation apprehend Johnson at a residence along the 2700 block of Sixth Avenue for violations of his parole condition. Parole officers had made contact with Johnson when he returned to the residence in a gray Toyota Rav4 with Frazier. Altoona police detained Johnson and Frazier upon seeing narcotics inside the vehicle, according to a post on the Altoona Police Department Facebook page.
A search warrant subsequently executed on both the Toyota and the residence yielded about 1.5 ounces of methamphetamine, about one ounce of crack cocaine, packaging material, drug paraphernalia and about $1,708 in cash, the post states.

Officers then learned that Johnson had ties to a residence along the 2300 block of West Chestnut Avenue, where he had allegedly stored additional narcotics. A search of that location yielded another two ounces of methamphetamine, scales and packaging material, the post states.
Johnson and Frazier are scheduled for preliminary hearings April 29 in front of Jones.
Johnson is scheduled for an additional preliminary hearing May 12 in front of Magisterial District Judge Wendy R. Mellott.
