Healthy Kids Day activities scheduled

Hollidaysburg, Johnstown events feature petting zoo, games, face painting

This Saturday, April 18, families throughout the region have the opportunity to celebrate health, wellness and fun at the YMCA’s annual Healthy Kids Day in Hollidaysburg and Johnstown.

The free events will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Blair Regional YMCA, 1111 Hewitt St., Hollidaysburg, and from noon to 2 p.m. at the Greater Johnstown Community YMCA, 100 Haynes St., Johnstown.

The events are open to the public and designed to inspire kids and families to stay active, engaged and healthy all year long.

“We are excited to bring families together for a fun and meaningful day focused on healthy living,” said Jolie Carey, director of youth enrichment and community engagement at the Johnstown facility. “Healthy Kids Day is all about helping kids discover new activities, build confidence, and connect with resources that support their overall well-being.”

At the Hollidaysburg facility, families can stroll through a petting zoo and take a tour of a police helicopter. There will be games, healthy snacks, contests, prizes, face painting, local vendors, community partner booths, gymnastics, a bounce house, robots, gardening and more.

Families are also encouraged to bring their swimsuits as the Hollidaysburg Y will feature an obstacle course and games in the pool area.

In the Johnstown facility, activities include Dance & Burn, musical chairs, DJ says, balloon keep up, freeze dance and a YMCA dance party.

In addition, there will be an open swim featuring water safety and volleyball, a ninja course, community information tables and food trucks.

Both events will host local organizations offering resources and information.

Healthy Kids Day is part of the YMCA’s national initiative to improve the health and well-being of children and families. The event encourages kids to stay physically and mentally active as they head into summer. Sponsored nationally by Peanuts and Gatorade, Healthy Kids Day’s mission is to prepare families for a safe, healthy and fun summer.

Starting at $2.99/week.
