Altoona man headed to second jury trial

Sanders charged in case related to Sheetz attack

HOLLIDAYSBURG — The city man convicted in late March on felony aggravated assault and related charges after assaulting multiple customers at the 700 Chestnut Avenue Sheetz in June 2025 will be headed to a second jury trial in a separate but related case.

Terrell Jarod Sanders, 41, appeared alongside assistant public defender Roland Leach for a trial list review hearing on Thursday afternoon. At that time, Leach told President Judge Wade A. Kagarise that the defense and prosecution had been unable to reach a resolution in the case and requested it be listed for jury selection.

Sanders faces two misdemeanor counts of resisting arrest and single misdemeanor counts of making terroristic threats, simple assault, intimidating a witness or victim, obstructing the administration of law enforcement and disorderly conduct. He also faces a summary criminal mischief charge.

Kagarise granted Leach’s request and scheduled Sanders for jury selection on May 18.

While Sanders posted $15,000 bail in the case, his $200,000 bail was revoked in his aggravated assault case after his conviction. He is currently being held at the Blair County Prison.

In that case, Sanders was found guilty of entering the Sheetz during the early morning hours of June 28, 2025, causing a disturbance and punching several people. Sanders appeared to be intoxicated at the time, police testified.

Additional testimony by both victims and witnesses painted a picture of the incident for the jury, including a Sheetz supervisor describing Sanders stomping on a victim’s head. Sanders also testified, saying he didn’t remember the incident and “didn’t go to Sheetz to hurt anyone.”

The prosecution played surveillance footage of Sanders attacking the victims, which corroborated victim and witness accounts.

The jury of six men and six women deliberated for about 80 minutes before returning their unanimous verdict against Sanders.

He was found guilty of a felony count of aggravated assault – attempts to cause serious bodily injury or causes injury with extreme indifference, two misdemeanor counts of simple assault and a misdemeanor count of disorderly conduct. Based on the jury’s verdicts, Kagarise found Sanders guilty of three summary counts of harassment and a summary count of public drunkenness.

Sanders is scheduled for sentencing June 12 in front of Kagarise.
