Breezewood man killed in Bedford County collision

A Breezewood man was killed in a three-vehicle accident Sunday afternoon in East Providence Township, Bedford County.

State police said the 2:15 p.m. accident occurred on Route 30, between Everett and Breezewood, when an 87-year-old female turned her eastbound Chevrolet Malibu left onto East Graceville Road and into the path of a westbound Ford Explorer driven by a 28-year-old Buffalo Mills man.

A third vehicle, a Chrysler Town and Country minivan, was stopped at the stop sign in the right lane of East Graceville Road, facing south, the report states.

The Explorer hit the Malibu’s front passenger side before rotating and striking the minivan, police reported.

The front-seat passenger in the Malibu, Homer E. Leaper, 95, of Breezewood was taken to UPMC Altoona, where he was pronounced dead.

The driver of the Malibu was transported to UPMC Bedford for treatment of suspected serious injuries, police said.

The driver of the minivan, a 33-year-old Everett woman and a 13-year-old passenger were transported to UPMC Bedford for treatment of suspected minor injuries. Three other passengers in the van, ages 4, 7 and 9, were not injured, according to the report.
