Motorist hits, kills black bear in East Saint Clair Township

A black bear was hit and killed by a vehicle in Bedford County last week.
According to state police, a driver was operating a 2016 Honda CRV in the right lane of I-99 south near mile marker 6.9 in East Saint Clair Township when a black bear entered the roadway from the left side about 9:26 p.m. July 29.
The bear ran directly in front of the vehicle and the driver was unable to avoid hitting the bruin head-on, the report stated.
The driver was able to pull the vehicle off to the side of the road and was not injured. The report noted the driver was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash.
The state Game Commission was then notified of the deceased bear, the report stated.
