Overnight traffic delays possible on Frankstown Road

PennDOT said overnight delays should be expected beginning at 8 p.m. Monday, July 21, through Friday, Aug. 1, as crews conduct High Friction Surface Treatment on Route 1009 (Frankstown Road) in Logan Township, Blair County.

Expect single-lane restrictions, standard nighttime flagging operations and delays of up to 15 minutes from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. on Frankstown Road.

HFST improves grip on the road surface. The project also includes centerline rumble strips and pavement markings.

Cottle’s Asphalt Maintenance Inc., of Everett, is the contractor for this $7.5 million project to provide safety improvements on the Route 1009 (Frankstown Road) corridor from Route 1021 (Amelia Avenue) to the Route 36 (Union Avenue) intersection with Route 1001 (East Plank Road/Pleasant Valley Boulevard).

The anticipated completion date is September.  

Detour for bridge replacement to end

A detour in place for the Route 3011 (Evitts Creek Road) bridge replacement project in Cumberland Valley Township, Bedford County, will be tentatively lifted at 3 p.m. today, Friday, July 18.

Wen-Brooke Contracting Inc., Three Springs, is the contractor for the $436,304.94 project to replace the bridge over the unnamed Evitts Creek tributary 1.3 miles east of Route 3009 (White Church Lane) and 1.5 miles west of  Route 3013 (Rainsburg Mountain Road).

Delays expected on Woodbury Pike

Delays will occur during evening and overnight hours beginning Monday, July 21, for an intersection improvement project on Route 36 (Woodbury Pike) and Route 164 (Cove Mountain Road) in Roaring Spring Borough and Taylor Township in Blair County. 

The contractor will be working during evening and overnight hours, 6 p.m. to 4 a.m., through Friday, Aug. 1. Long-term traffic controls, and flaggers where needed, will be in place to shift traffic away from the shoulder areas.  

Cottle’s Asphalt Maintenance, Everett, is the contractor for the $2.06 million intersection improvement project, which consists of shoulder widening and the addition of turning lanes, as well as utility relocation and drainage upgrades and sidewalk replacement. The project is slated for completion in November. 

Overnight detour rescheduled

A one-day, overnight detour for U.S. 219 North exit to Route 56 (Johnstown Expressway) in Richland Township, Cambria County, has been rescheduled to Wednesday, July 23.

From 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 23, to 6 a.m. Thursday, July 24, the contractor will implement a single-day, overnight closure of Route 56 (Johnstown Expressway) northbound ramp from U.S. 219 in Richland Township. If needed, the detour will continue beginning at 8 p.m. Thursday, July 24, to 6 a.m. Friday, July 25.

A two-mile detour will direct traffic on U.S. 219 north to the next exit, for Galleria Drive, and onto U.S. 219 south to the Route 56 (Johnstown Expressway) north exit.

Kuharchik Construction Inc., Exeter, is the contractor for the $250,000 project to repair conduit and electrical wire for existing inoperable light poles. The work will include the installation of Light-Emitting Diode highway lighting luminaires to replace the traditional High-Pressure Sodium luminaires. All work on this project is expected to be completed by Aug. 1.

Tank removal may cause delays

Minor traffic delays are expected at the intersection of Route 219 and Route 271 (Nicktown Hill Road) in Northern Cambria Borough, Cambria County, beginning Monday, July 21. 

On Monday, contractors will be removing underground storage tanks near the intersection. The project is expected to last three days.    

Contractors will conduct work under daylight flagging, with the potential for traffic delays not to exceed 15 minutes.

Quaker Sales Inc., Johnstown, is the contractor for the $5.2 million project, slated for completion in the 2025 construction season. The project includes resurfacing, base repairs, guide rail and drainage upgrades, traffic signal replacements and geometric curve improvements on Route 219 from Sunset Road to Nixon Avenue in Northern Cambria.
