The Casino at Lakemont Park is closing after a final event – a wedding reception – on July 5, according to owner Doug Simon.

For several years, Simon has been trying to convince the Blair County Commissioners to redirect some of the bed tax revenue that goes to support the Blair County Convention Center operation to his operation, which takes place on county-owned property, he said.

That hasn’t happened, although there seemed to be an understanding at one point, until focus shifted to creation of trail opportunities in connection with the bed tax revenue, Simon said.

In any event, it would have been “too little too late,” he said.
