Holly Bazaar starts Saturday
The Community Arts Center of Cambria County will hold its 54th Holly Bazaar — a multifaceted holiday celebration — Saturday, Nov. 9, through Christmas Eve, Dec. 24.
The Community Arts Center will be open seven days a week during the bazaar. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sundays.
The Holly Bazaar will be in the Goldhaber-Fend Fine Arts Center’s gallery and M. Josephine Paul Family Museum, and features handcrafted items from more than 60 local craftsmen and artisans.
In addition, entertainment will be held each Saturday. The line-up includes Rosie & the Jammers, 1 to 4 p.m. Nov. 9; Mark Ed, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Nov. 16; Meat & Potatoes, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Nov. 23; Amber Gobbel, noon to 2 p.m. Dec. 7; Mark Ed, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Dec. 21; and Santa Claus from noon to 3 p.m. Dec. 21.
Classes, workshops offered
Holiday classes and workshops will be held as part of the Holly Bazaar activities. Registration is required one week before each class or workshop.
ö Clay hand-building will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. for six Mondays, Nov. 11-Dec. 16. Class is limited to seven participants. Cost is $65 plus materials for members and $70 plus materials for nonmembers. Materials fee is $25.
Participants will learn the techniques of hand-building with clay. Each class will build on the last, starting with proper technique, hand-building guidelines, basic pottery guidelines and how to make your own slabs of clay. Participants will finish off the series by taking their finished piece home. Instructor is Mark Ed.
ö Christmas Kinkade Painting will be held over four Tuesdays, 1 to 3 p.m. Nov. 12-Dec. 3. Cost is $50 for members and $55 for nonmembers. Class is limited to 10 participants.
Participants will create a masterpiece of their own inspired by the works of Thomas Kinkade in this four-week instructional class. Use acrylic paint to capture the beauty and uniqueness that is infused with the warm glow of a cold winter’s night and captures the essence of the holiday season. Learn brush techniques, contrast, color variation and using painting tools to create different types of strokes and patterns. Participants can bring a photo for reference if desired. Instructor is Duane Webb.
ö Swing into the holidays will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. over six Tuesdays, Nov. 5-Dec. 10. Cost is $224 per couple, with a $40 deposit required upon registration, with the balance due before the first lesson. The class is limited to 10 couples.
During this six-week class, instructor Angela R. Godin will teach students three dances: Slow Dance, Swing and Rumba. Dance shoes are not required, but encouraged.
ö Wheel thrown pottery will be offered from 6 to 8 p.m. over five Tuesdays, Nov. 19-Dec. 17. Cost is $70 plus materials for members and $75 plus materials for nonmembers. Materials fee is $25. Class is limited to seven participants.
This class offers the very basics and also more advanced understanding of learning to work on a pottery wheel, including clay prep, wedging, centering clay, lifting or pulling clay into a 5-inch cylinder, and intro to hand building. Beginner and intermediate students are both welcome. Participants should not wear valuable jewelry and should not have long fingernails. Bring a towel.

Workshops
ö Captivating Christmas, tips and tricks to capture perfect holiday photos, will be held from 10:30 a.m. to noon Saturday, Nov. 16, with instructor Bryan Smith. Class size is limited to 10 participants. Cost is $10 for members; $15 for nonmembers.
Discussion will include capturing lighting, angles and filtering ideas. Indoor and outdoor photos will be discussed. Bring a camera or cellphone to take photos after class on the Community Arts Center property to practice what you have learned.
ö DIY Fall Wreath will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 16. Cost is $30 for members; $35 for nonmembers. Class is limited to 10 participants. Instructor Mark Ed will guide participants through the process of making a straw wreath for a front door or to give as a gift.
ö Learn how to make a macrame Christmas tree from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 23. Janice Sandak will offer step by step instructions. Cost is $60 for members; $65 for nonmembers. The class is limited to 10 participants. Those attending should bring a lunch.
ö A Marvel-ous Christmas will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Dec. 7. Instructor Koa Beam will teach those ages 13 and older how to draw your favorite Marvel or DC character in a Christmas-themed fashion. Materials are provided; class is limited to 10 participants. Cost is $20 for members and $25 for nonmembers.
ö From noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, create crazy, funny, wounded gingerbread ornaments out of polymer clay. Ruchelle Dillion will provide detailed instructions on how to make them, bake them and take them home to be enjoyed throughout the holiday season. Class is limited to 10 participants. Cost is $30 for members; $35 for nonmembers.
