National Night Out Against Crime set for today
The community will have the opportunity to visit with local law enforcement personnel during the 40th annual National Night Out Against Crime events to be held from 6 to 9 p.m. today in Duncansville and Altoona.
In Duncansville, Night Out activities will be held in the parking lot at Antique Depot, where about 1,000 people turned out for last year’s event, said Sheriff James Ott.
“We hope to have the same — we always like to see a good turn out,” he said.
Ott said this is the 39th year the county is participating in the national event designed to give neighbors a chance to gather and interact with police officers and other organizations in the community that provide support.
“It gives everyone a chance to say they are taking back their neighborhood from crime and drugs,” Ott said.
He emphasized that this event is for everyone in the county even if they don’t live in Duncansville.
Activities in Duncansville include a parade at 6 p.m. and a car show — with free registration beginning at 5:15 p.m.
The parade will begin at Third Avenue and end at the Antique Depot parking lot. The evening will also include prize giveaways and displays by local law enforcement, community support organizations and area businesses. Fireworks will wrap up the night’s events at 9 p.m.
The events are free, though there will be food vendors on hand with items available to purchase.
In Altoona, Night Out Against Crime events will be held in Heritage Plaza, where there will be musical entertainment by Donny Burns and The 3rd Degree, food by Michael’s Pizzeria, a dunk tank and displays.
