All local counties in high range
All six of the local counties are in the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s high transmission category for COVID-19 as of Friday.
Blair, Cambria, Centre and Huntingdon counties moved up from the substantial range during the week, with Bedford and Clearfield in the high transmission category last week.
All the local counties are in the high transmission range because their incidence rates — the number of new cases in the past week per 100,000 residents — are over 99.
None of the local counties’ test positivity rates are in the high range.
The highest number of new cases this week among the local counties was Cambria, with 187.
The percentage of hospital beds used and ICU beds used for COVID-19 remains fairly low in all the local counties.
There are 53 COVID-19 patients at UPMC facilities in the region including Altoona, Bedford, Somerset and Western Maryland, according to UPMC spokesman Ed DeWitt.
