HOLLIDAYSBURG

Work begins on culvert replacement

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation has announced that work will start on a second culvert in a two-culvert replacement project on Business 220 (Route 4009), beginning today in Bedford Township, Bedford County.

The contractor will begin work on Business 220 over the Dunnings Creek tributary bridge. Work will include replacing the existing structure with a precast reinforced concrete box culvert, roadway approach work and guardrail and drainage upgrades. This culvert is located near Beldon Road.

A 6.2-mile detour will use Business 220, Route 220, I-99 and Quaker Valley Road (PA 56). The detour will be lifted by Aug. 24.

Cottles Asphalt Maintenance Inc. of Everett is the contractor.

Work on the Business 220 culvert over Brush Run Bridge — replacing the existing structure with a precast reinforced concrete box culvert, roadway approach work, guardrail and drainage upgrades — will be completed before the new project begins. The structure is located at the Business Park entrance.

Work on the $1.4 million project should be finished in October.
