Peoples seeks to increase distribution rates
Peoples Natural Gas Co. LLC has filed a request with the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission to increase natural gas distribution rates as of May 26.
People requested an overall net distribution rate increase of approximately $163.2 million per year. In filing, Peoples is updating the normal heating degree days used in the Weather Normalization Adjustment mechanism as described in its current proposed tariffs.
Based upon current tariff rates, if the company’s entire request is approved the total bill for a residential customer using 86 thousand cubic feet per year would increase from $122.20 to $138.23 per month or by 13.1%.
The state agency which approves rates for public utilities is the PUC. The PUC will examine the requested rate increase and can prevent existing rates from changing until it investigates and/or holds hearings on the request.
After examining the evidence, the PUC may grant all, some or none of the request or may reduce existing rates.
