Military Food Share to be held March 9

The Military Food Share at the Duncansville VFW 8724 will be held on Monday, March 9, beginning at 11 a.m.

This is for all active military, veterans and widows or widowers of veterans living in Blair County. A military ID, DD214 or VA card and photo ID are required. Please enter from Dunnings Highway/Newry Lane and line up on Turek Drive. Food shares are held monthly on the second Monday.

The VFW and its auxiliary is thankful for all the volunteers and local businesses who help to keep this program going each month.

Historical society to meet in Duncansville

The Duncansville Area Historical Society will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 10, at the Duncansville Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1200 Fourth Ave. Enter by door “D” at the rear of the church.

Dale DeLozier will discuss “Fraternal Organizations in Duncansville.”

The society is encouraging more local people to attend the meetings. It is interested in copies of pictures and information regarding Duncansville. Information can be sent to Nancy DeLozier, P.O. Box 115, Duncansville, PA 16635.

The society meets on the second Tuesday of every other month, except January.

Nursing alumni to meet March 9

The Altoona/Mercy Schools of Nursing Alumni Association will meet at 6 p.m. Monday, March 9, at Perkins Restaurant, 3300 Pleasant Valley Blvd., Altoona.

Members are invited to attend.

Women’s club offers scholarships

The GFWC Hollidaysburg Area Women’s Club is offering several scholarship opportunities for qualified high school seniors residing in the Hollidaysburg Area School District who plan to continue their education in the fall semester immediately following graduation.

An Academic Scholarship of up to $1,000 is available to a senior who plans to attend a college or university, and a Vocational Scholarship of up to $1,000 is being offered to a senior who plans to attend a technical or business school. In addition, an Arts Scholarship of up to $1,000 is available to a senior who intends to further his or her education at a college or university.

All scholarships will be awarded based on academics, educational/career goals, leadership and community involvement. The Arts Scholarship applicant must also demonstrate artistic talent via the submission of a portfolio of their work.

The GFWC HAWC is also offering a Community Service Award of up to $500 to a qualified high school senior residing in the HASD who has exhibited commitment, volunteerism and leadership in his or her community throughout high school.

Morrisons Cove Class of 1960 to meet

The Morrisons Cove High School Class of 1960 will meet at noon Wednesday, March 11, at The Bistro at the Village Green.

Country Traditions to oerform March 14

The Alum Bank Community Volunteer Fire Company Auxiliary will host the band Country Traditions from 6:30 to 10 p.m. Saturday, March 14, at the firehall. Admission is $5 per person. The kitchen opens at 5 p.m.

‘Brews to Beat ALS’ set for April 11

Area residents are invited to join Team Winning Attitude’s Walk to Defeat ALS team for “Brews to Beat ALS” from 6 to 10 p.m. Saturday, April 11, at Levity Brewery, 1411 11th Ave., Altoona.

The team is led by Altoona native Luke Kelly.

The event is open to all ages with an adult. It promises an evening filled with live entertainment, prizes and beer. Levity Brewery will donate $1 from every beer sold directly to the ALS Association, contributing to the ongoing efforts to find a cure.

Guests attending “Brews to Beat ALS” will be entered to win door prizes. No purchase or donation is required to be entered. Additionally, attendees can look forward to three rounds of musical bingo, giving them the opportunity to win a $25 Levity gift card.

Plus, ALS swag and candles will be available for purchase, with all proceeds going to the ALS Association.

Additionally, cookies and cupcakes can be purchased to benefit the cause.

Golf event to benefit Camp Kanesatake

The annual Camp K Golf Tournament Fundraiser will be hosted at Mountain View Country Club in Boalsburg with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. Friday, May 29.

It will raise money toward the ministries of Camp Kanesatake in Spruce Creek.

There are two golfer leagues: the Church Division, for golfers associated with a church, where pastors golf for free; and the Open Division, for golfers associated with a business or unaffiliated. Cost is $175 per golfer or $700 for a team of four.

Camp K to hold Family Day April 25

Camp Kanesatake in Spruce Creek will hold Family Day at Camp K on Saturday, April 25, where guests of all ages can enjoy a full day of outdoor entertainment.

Participants can sign up to run the scenic trails in the trail run or cast a line into the creek during the fishing tournament. Along with the friendly competition, families can explore a variety of activities and attractions, including local food and craft vendors, hayrides, a zipline and a kids’ carnival. Free parking will be available.
